CAPITOL FAX

-- (DIERSEN: FOR ILLINOIS CONSERVATIVES, THAT IS, FOR ILLINOIS PLATFORM REPUBLICANS, THAT IS, FOR THE BASE OF THE ILLINOIS REPUBLICAN PARTY, IS THIS JUST VERY SAD, OR IS IT OUTRAGEOUS, OR IS IT WORSE?:) Brady says he has no significant social conservative agenda - Rich Miller (FROM THE ARTICLE: One wonders whether the social conservatives will sit still for this, or if they'll just keep their powder dry knowing they'll have an ally if Brady is elected. Thoughts?) Click Here

DAILY HERALD

-- ENDORSEMENT: Our pick for governor: Bill Brady (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to defend and advance their platform. The Illinois Republican Party platform is conservative and it has many very important social planks. Bill Brady ran as Republican. Would Brady have won the primary if he, as the Daily Herald says, had promised that he "won't push a social agenda as governor?" I can just hear the Democrat in my precinct who often runs out of his home and shouts at me when I walk by: Ha! Ha! You Republicans picked a governor candidate who won't push your own platform.) Click Here (FROM THE ENDORSEMENT: Not an ideal candidate, Brady's personal views veer to the right of our tastes and the well-being of the state, but we take him at his word that he won't push a social agenda as governor and we call on him to govern from the middle. Meanwhile, Brady has three things going for him: 1. He is committed to a philosophy that the state cannot spend what it does not have. 2. He believes strongly in transparency in government. 3. He is not Pat Quinn. Ultimately, the question is this: How can we expect the state to get out of its historic mess if we keep electing the same people? The answer, of course, is that we can't. Bill Brady for governor.)

-- Kirk's conservative dilemma - Greg Hinz Click Here (FROM THE ARTICLE: He was, as usual, much sharper at saying where he differed from his party, noting stem-cell research and children's health care for two. But every time he does that, he rubs a still somewhat open wound among conservative voters who don't totally trust him. Ergo a lively discussion on Illinois Review, a conservative website, about whether the right ought to hold its nose and vote for a guy better than Mr. Giannoulias, or ought to demand more. Or an internal Kirk campaign memo about how to avoid becoming "the next moderate victim" that Politico reported on.)

Jan Schakowsky in Chicago's 9th district, a friend of Mr. Obama who is an author and ardent defender of the new children's-product lead law. That's 20 times more than any Republican has ever raised for a run against Ms. Schakowsky, who won 75% of the vote in the last election and is vying for a 7th term. "This is a war," he says. "Individuals can make a difference, and I want my kids to see it." Over the past few months, Mr. Pollak says, he and Mr. Woldenberg have been trying to tap into "donors residing outside the district with a strong business or personal motivation." The Pollak campaign scored a fundraising appearance by Republican economic policy star Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. Mr. Pollak took the podium and pointed out Schakowsky campaign manager Alex Armour, who was in the crowd videotaping the event.)
