Last week the Chicago papers and media reported that Mayor Daley's gun control legislation was sent "Down in flames". But taking a second look at what did pass, that seems to be a lie. What did pass was "A BAN ON THE SALE OR PURCHASE OF SEMIAUTOMATIC WEAPONS."

The ban made it out of a Senate committee and will be voted on the senate floor. Legislation like this has passed the House many times only to be stopped in the Senate, so it seems like a lock to pass.

As you can see by the alert put out by the ISRA below, this is not a loss for Mayor Daley but a huge loss for freedom loving Americans, weather they own guns or not. Matt Crowl, one of the mayor's point men on the gun initiative said "We were happy about the bills that made it out, and we'll keep plugging on the bills that didn't. It was mixed,"
Governor Blagojevich's people stayed away from the hearings but said "I don't want you to read too much into [the fact] that we weren't there,"

The gun grabbing that we warned people of in the campaign for Governor and control of the state legislature is coming to pass. All of the "conservative" Democrats from down state who promised that Rod had changed on the gun issue have now been shown to be liars. Where is the GOP Leadership? Lets hope they find a voice before it's to late.

Which of my guns would be banned by SB1195?

SB1195 would ban most, if not all the semiautomatic rifles that you own. That would include your AR-15 target rifle; the M-1 Garand that you got from the CMP; your M1A match rifle; and that old M1 Carbine your grandfather brought back from the war. Your inline muzzleloaders would be banned as well. Also, all accessories and spare parts for those guns would be banned too.

What choices will I have if I own guns banned by SB1195?

Within 90 days of passage of SB1195, you will have to do one of the following:

Turn your banned guns in to the police - for no compensation of course.
Bring your banned guns to a gunsmith and have the receiver cut or the bolt welded shut.
Transfer your banned guns out of state.
Sell your house and move out of state.
What would happen if I got caught with a gun banned by Daley?

Penalties for possessing a banned gun will be severe. For example, that M1 Carbine handed down to you by your grandfather plus 3 magazines would earn you 30 years hard time in prison. That extra oiler kit you have for the Carbine would get you another 7 years hard time.

I'm not going to surrender my guns. They'll never find out, will they?

Unfortunately, they may know what you own already.

Several months ago, The Illinois Shooter reported on a shady paramilitary unit called the Chicago Anti Gun Enforcement (CAGE) unit. Made up of Chicago cops, ATF Agents, and detectives from the Illinois State Police, the purpose of the CAGE unit is to put in place the mechanism for confiscating guns from law-abiding citizens once the Daley Gun-Free Illinois plan is put in place.

For the past few years, CAGE unit operatives have been gathering information on law-abiding gun owners and the guns they own. They have done this in several ways. One way has been to demand gun trace information from gun shops. To do that CAGE operatives send the gun shop a name, and the shop must, by law, turn over all gun purchase information for the person having that name. CAGE operatives have also been visiting gun shops and copying names and gun information from dealers' "books." Information we have gotten from gun shops indicates that the people that CAGE has been focusing on are people that have purchased semiautomatic rifles and pistols, and households where more than one person holds a FOID card.

To expand on the activities of the CAGE unit, Daley is trying to get his "Dealer Licensing Act" put in place. If the "Dealer Licensing Act" passes, the CAGE unit will be authorized to go into every gun shop in the state and confiscate all of the dealer's sales records. Those records will be brought back to the Chicago Police Department where they'll be entered into a computer. Once that is done, the CAGE unit can find your AR-15 merely by entering a few keystrokes into the computer.

And you'd better believe...Daley and CAGE plan on finding you.

How will SB1195 be enforced

You can expect SB1195 to be vigorously enforced. Early operations will probably be against high profile members of the pro-gun movement such as gun club officers and people who may have written letters to the editor opposing Daley's gun grab. The purpose of the early operations will be to demoralize and embarrass gun owners into compliance.

The level of drama used by Daley's CAGE unit may vary. Gun owners may well find themselves 'picked up for questioning' at their place of employment. Imagine being dragged away from your desk in handcuffs just because you decided to keep that old M1 Carbine your grandfather handed down to you.

A no-knock, night raid on your home is certainly not out of the question - we've seen it happen other places. Dozens of CAGE troops would storm your house. They'd toss "flash bang" grenades in your bedrooms. Family pets would be dispatched with quick shotgun blasts. And, within minutes, you and your family would find yourselves on your front lawn, hog-tied and naked while CAGE troops ransacked your home looking for that old M1 Carbine your grandfather handed down to you.

But, what about my rights?

If SB1195 passes, anyone who owns, or who has ever owned a banned firearm is will become a suspected felon. As a suspected felon, your rights are few. Being a gun owner makes you a suspected felon who is "armed and dangerous." Therefore, the use of deadly force during the course of your apprehension would be authrorized.

But, isn't this America?
